As my time in the Carmel Valley concluded, the most anticipated part of the trip was on the horizon. I discovered a hidden paradise in the redwood forest and spent three nights there. I was feeling a sense of being ‘home,’ a sense of belonging that I have only ever felt in Kauai up until this point.
This piece of heaven was not easy to get to! Once you park the car, there is a steep hike up to the property. Carrying my belongings up this path was quite the workout, but SO worth it. The seclusion of being up off of the redwood lined road was priceless. It almost felt as if I were in a tree house because everywhere I looked, the forest was around me. There was even an ocean view from the second and third floors!
I was immediately inspired to write, so I set up on the top floor and wrote Part 1 of this blog. I felt so alive. I had no plans and nowhere to be except in this shangri-la of a place. There were so many trails to follow, all leading to different meditation spaces. Each one was magical in it’s own way.
The only time I left the property was to go on a tour of the Point Sur Lighthouse. This was my second time visiting, and it was just as exciting hearing about all the shipwrecks off the coast and how the keepers of the light survived there in the earlier years. This particular lighthouse is deemed the most haunted in the United States, according to our guide. I could definitely feel that energy in the assistant keepers living quarters. I would not want to do the night tour of that building!
Another blessing on this journey was seeing whales migrating down the coast. The first family were feasting, so you could hear them singing with joy at the food they discovered. The second enounter with the whales was their play time! I saw one of the calves breach out of the sea, while the others were slapping their fins on the water.
The immense beauty of the land in Big Sur is unlimited and deeply healing. I will continue to return every few months to recharge, relax, and open my soul to the endless suprises the landscape has to share. It has been a dream to hold a Reiki retreat in Big Sur for a while now, and I have found the perfect place to do so. Be on the lookout for details!
