As many of you may know by now, I love traveling. It is what inspires and recharges me, allowing me to live at my highest potential. There is something about being perched in a mountain top, overlooking the sea, that fills the soul and puts life into perspective.
This road trip’s itinerary included the regular destinations: Santa Barbara, Big Sur, and Carmel. You know a place has magic when you can return time after time and be in awe of new things you have never seen before.
One of the most beautiful discoveries was driving on the 101N and stopping at The Sacred Space. My friend mentioned this store and gardens to me months ago, but I never had time to stop. I am SO glad I made time to explore this time. It is filled with stellar crystals and spiritual gifts. The surrounding gardens transport you to Bali with their day beds and tropical palms.
Santa Barbara was my first stop. This time I stayed in the “Mesa” area, which is about a 10 minute drive to downtown and State Street. I rented an apartment off of airbnb.com. If you haven’t heard of this peer-to-peer home exchange site, I highly recommend checking it out!
Most of my time was spent relaxing, reading, and exploring State Street and the “Funk Zone,” but one of my favorite parts of this visit was going on the tour of Casa del Herrero in Montecito. I enjoyed learning about the old Spanish architecture, 15th Century artwork, and the expansive gardens where George Steedman and his family resided in the 1930s.
And then there was the food! I went to some of my regular favorites, but also discovered some new spots.
- Arigato – My all time favorite sushi restaurant. I have to go every time I am in Santa Barbara. Try the “Magic Mushroom” roll. It’s amazing.
- Rori’s Artisanal Creamery – I had never been to this shop before and was delighted to find ice cream I enjoyed more than McConnell’s…and it’s organic! The salted carmel was out of this world.
- The Palace Grill – Excellent service, a great menu, and delicious food. Bonus points for the whole restaurant singing “What A Wonderful World” every hour!
Stay tuned for Part 2 of my epic summer road trip…the adventure will surely get more wild as I head in to Big Sur!
